For nearly two decades, Thilanga Sumathipala has been the biggest curse of Sri Lanka cricket. He, with his gang of looters, has pushed Sri Lanka cricket on ventilator.
Now, the curse of Sri Lanka cricket has become the curse of entire nation.
As the Island is facing political turmoil, peaceful dialogues as per the constitution is the need of hour. However, Sumathipala deliberately turned 15 November as ‘Black Thursday‘ in Sri Lanka history, by disrespecting parliament speaker honorable Karu Jayasuriya during an eventful session.
During a tense parliament session on Thursday, when UNP and UPFA were trying to establish their own theories to justify their claims to run the government, Sumathipala deliberately turned it into a shameful incident, by walking to the Karu chair and having a crude arguement with him. He did this shameful act, even after Karu had treated him with utmost respect when he was the deputy speaker.
“Former Sports Minister SB Dissanayake and Sumathipala are responsible for this political mess in the country. They are the ones, who misled president Maithripala Sirisena for their own agendas and put entire nation into a deep crisis” a top UNP leader told Cricket Age.
It is noteworthy that Sumathipala is battling for his survival. In last six months, he has lost everything. He was removed as parliament deputy speaker and thrown out of the SLC. Now, there is an onging court case against Sumathipala, and it’s outcome will make it impossible for him to contest the SLC election. So, a desperate Sumathipala is doing everything to revive himself. In his desperation, he is putting entire nation into political chaos.
