India were touted as one of the favourites to win the ongoing Women’s Word T20 after finishing unbeaten in their group to enter the semifinals. However, Harmanpreet Kaur and co suffered a humiliating defeat against England in the semis as they bowed out of the tournament. In a shocking move, veteran Mithali Raj was dropped from the playing XI against England, a decision which seemingly didn’t go down well with fans, experts and Mithali’s manager.
Mithali, who was in fine form and had no injury niggles as such was left out of the playing XI, a decision which Harmanpreet said was taken in the best interest of the team and to ‘keep a winning combination.’ However, Mithali’s manager Annisha Gupta lashed out at her for leaving Mithali out and termed her as a ‘manipulative and undeserving’ captain.
“Unfortunately @BCCIWomen believes in politics not sport. After witnessing what @M_Raj03 ‘s experience could do in IndvIre it’s shocking that they went with what pleases @ImHarmanpreet -a manipulative, lying, immature, undeserving captain,” came a tweet from Gupta’s Twitter account.
Mithali played two games in the tournament and scored 107 runs at an average of 53.50.
