Day 2 of the opening Test between India and Australia continued to be a great outing for Virat Kohli and his team as Indian seamer Ishant Sharma ran riot to pick up two important wickets to dent Aussies’ hopes of making a strong case after packing the visitors for just 250 runs. Ishant picked up a brace to complete 50 Test wickets against Australia. Ishant first dismissed opener Aaron Finch for a duck and followed it with skipper Tim Paine’s dismissal in the 63rd over of the second day.
The two wickets put visitors in driver’s seat after being bowled out for 250 in their first innings. Ishant had earlier completed his 50 Test wickets against England as he continued his good form with the ball in red-ball cricket. The Indian seamer was praised by the cricketing fans for his fantastic display with the red cherry as some said that his experience is finally kicking off.
Travis Head hit a calculated half-century to lead Australia’s fightback after their top order slumped under sustained pressure from India’s bowlers on day 2 of the opening Test, leaving the Adelaide Test evenly poised. Travis Head stood tall and steered the hosts to 191/7 in reply to India’s first innings total of 250. While Head remained unbeaten on 61, Mitchell Starc was not out on eight when the stumps were drawn. For India, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin bowled beautifully to take three wickets, while Ishant Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah grabbed two each.
