Advertising India vs Australia: Rishabh Pant equals MS Dhoni’s record in Adelaide

Written by Rohit Pawar

Rishabh Pant is just six matches into his Test career but he has already matched a Mahendra Singh Dhoni feat during the ongoing first Test between India and Australia at the Adelaide Oval. Pant became the joint recipient of most catches by an Indian wicketkeeper in a Test innings as he held on to six catches behind the wicket during the Australian innings.

The only other wicketkeeper to take these many catches in a single Test innings is MS Dhoni, who achieved the feat back in 2009 at Wellington in the third Test match of India’s tour of New Zealand. To achieve the feat, Pant caught out Usman Khawaja (28), Peter Handscomb (34), Travis Head (72), Tim Paine (5), Mitchell Starc (15) and Josh Hazlewood (0).

India bowled out Australia for 235 on the rain-affected day in Adelaide, gaining a lead by 15 runs. Bumrah and Ashwin took three wickets each, while Sharma and Shami picked up two wickets in the innings.
