Gautam Gambhir scored a cracking century in his final appearance as he smashed 112 runs in the Ranji Trophy 2018-19 match between Delhi and Andhra to give a fairytale ending to his trophy-laden career.
Playing his last competitive match of a glittering career, Gambhir brought up his 43rd first-class hundred with a quick double of Ayyappa Bandaru. The celebration was short as the southpaw acknowledged a round of applause from the sparsely populated crowd at Kotla and quickly got his focus back, intent on making it count one last time.
Earlier on Tuesday, Gambhir posted a heartfelt and emotional video to announce his retirement from all formats of the game. Gambhir, who is also lauded as one of the finest openers that India have produced in its history, has played many match-winning innings to give India victory from crunch situations and in big matches.
Gambhir received a guard of honour from the opposition Andhra players, which shows what a legend of the game he is. After Andhra posted a 1st innings total of 390, Delhi got off to a flyer opener Hiten Dalal played a brilliant knock of 58.
