In a first, as there is no functioning Sports Minister in the country, Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has approved the ODI and T20I squad for New Zealand tour and more surprisingly has appointed veteran fast bowler Lasith Malinga as the new shorter formats captain. Angelo Mathews, Dhanushka Gunatilake, Asela Gunaratne andSeekuge Prasanna have also returned to the squad.
