The auction for the upcoming season of Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to take place on December 18 in Jaipur. Ahead of the all-important auction, One of the biggest criterias that will be seen by the franchises will be the availability of the players. Many players will not be available for the full season due to World Cup 2019, that starts few days after IPL.
Harsha Bhogle, who is regarded as the voice of Indian cricket, recently had his say on the IPL auction and as per him, the franchises gotta pick players who may not make their national teams for the World Cup 2019.
“This is the most peculiar IPL year of all because it is an election year and a world cup year – World Cup is after IPL. Why am I mentioning all this because there are a lot of implications of what you do in the auction. Players will leave early. You gotta pick players, ironically, who may not make the World Cup squads because they will available to you for much longer,” he said.
Owing to Word Cup 2019, Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell decided not to put their names forward for the IPL 2019 auction. Along with them, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins, who went for big bicks in the previous auction, also decided not to enter the auction.
