The controversy in the women’s cricket team seems to be have done and dusted as Harmanpreet Kaur, India’s ODI vice-captain and T20I captain, has said that they have moved on from it. The women’s cricket team became the talk of the town after the T20 World Cup, where Mithali was controversially left out of the playing XI for the semi-final of the tournament against England, that India lost to crash out of the tournament. Mithali was adjudged Player of the Match in last two games before she missed the Australia tie due to a knee issue.
She was set to make a comeback in the semi-final but was kept out, which did not go down well. After returning to India, she revealed that coach Ramesh Powar was trying to destroy her career. He wasn’t given an extension as head coach after World Cup.
“I don’t think there has been any problem between me and Mithali. I can speak for myself. You have to speak to her and ask if she has a problem with me. I have always respected her as a senior. We are mature enough to handle the situation. We will have to play as a unit to take the team forward. We are more team players than individuals. If you think about the team cause, you will put your head down and work towards that. I have met her and spoken to her after all these events and we seem to have moved on,” Harmanpreet was quoted as saying by The Mumbai Mirror.
Harmanpreet and Mithali will soon meet again as India will be playing New Zealand in a three-match ODI and T20I series. Mithali will lead the Women in Blue in ODIs. She was retained in the T20I squad.
