Prithvi Shaw expects to return strongly in IPL 2019

Indian opener Prithvi Shaw saw his Australia tour end in a rather unfortunate manner as he had to fly back home after picking up an ankle injury in a practice game ahead of the start of the four-match series. Shaw had a terrific Test debut against West Indies as he scored a brilliant 237 runs in three innings at an average of astounding 118.50.

Shaw has now given a major update on his fitness ahead of the Indian Premier League and the 2019 World Cup. He is currently not a part of India A side which will be taking on England Lions in a five-match ODI series. However, he expects to be fit before the IPL where he will be turning out for the Delhi Capitals.

“I will be fit before the Indian Premier League and I am trying hard to reach full fitness. I am working on my ankle as well as on my upper body,” Shaw was quoted as saying by India TV.

Shaw failed to feature in the Test series against Australia due to injury but said he was happy to see India script history Down Under by becoming the first team from Asia to win a Test series on Aussie soil.

“It was an unfortunate incident and you can’t really do anything about that. It was my wish to play in the challenging conditions in Australia. I love the bounce there. But unfortunately, I suffered a leg injury. But that’s okay, I am very happy that India won the Test series. It can’t get better than this,” Shaw said talking about India’s victory.

The 19-year-old is currently regaining fitness at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and expects to return to the pitch soon. It will be his second season in the IPL with Delhi Capitals this year.
