Justin Langer says Australia’s 2-1 Domain Test series loss to India and the criticism and queries raised in the media about his team was “one of the toughest times I’ve had professionally and that the unit felt like “punching bags” due to the criticism they were coping in the media.
A misfiring bowling attack, batting woes and the National Selection Panel – which Langer is a member of – were all in the spotlight as India secured their first Test series victory on Australian soil.
In contrast, the visiting side boasted an impressive bowling attack led by Jasprit Bumrah, a powerful batting line-up spearheaded by skipper Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara and underlined their status as the world’s No.1 Test side in a historic triumph.
“I look back now at Sydney and Melbourne (and) without sounding like a sook, we felt like punching bags through a lot of criticism in the media,” Langer told radio station SEN on Tuesday.
