Dean Jones lashes out at Australian selectors

Former Australian cricketer Dean Jones has lashed out at the national selectors, saying that they are to blame for the downfall of Australian cricket. Jones was highly critical of the decision made by the selectors in the past year where Australia had one of the worst performances in their history. Australia suffered a Test series defeat to India, South Africa, and Pakistan while losing One Day International (ODI) series to England and India.

“I am sorry, but I am over these national selectors. I know the depth of talent within Australian cricket circles is not that great, but for me, the biggest problem in Australian cricket is our selectors,” said Jones in an article for Sydney Morning Herald.

Jones went on to say that he was perplexed by the decision to select Marnus Labuschagne and Jhye Richardson for the India series even though there were several other cricketers who have been performing really in the domestic circuit.

“The mixed messages the national selectors panel are sending out has left players, media and fans scratching their heads. Well, talk me through how Marnus Labuschagne and Jhye Richardson got selected before others?” said Jones.

Jones even suggested for the newly appointed Cricket Australia CEO Kevin Roberts to fire all the selectors from their jobs and appoint two-three new ones.
