Harin Fernando, the Sports Minister of Sri Lanka, will travel to Australia at his own expenses to solve the ongoing crisis within the team, Cricket Age reliably learns.
On January 26, Sri Lanka’s allrounder Thisara Perera has written a letter to SLC CEO Ashley De Silva, asking him to intervene and stop national team’s shorter formats captain Lasith Malinga’s wife from maligning his image. In the letter, Thisara also mentioned that the team is badly divided at the moment and there is no unity amongs the players at all.
To solve the crisis, Harin Will travel to Australia and will address the team during the second test against at Canberra, to be played from February 1.
However, unlike his Predecessors, Harin Will not use the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) money, instead will travel on his own expenses.
It is a praiseworthy move by Harin, as previous Sri Lanka’s Sports Ministers were notorious for using SLC money for their cricket related travelling. Faizer Mustapha, particularly, had gone half a dozen times to Dubai to meet International Cricket Council (ICC) Top officials. His all Dubai visits had cost SLC millions of rupees, even though he could not convince ICC for anything significant in regard to Sri Lanka cricket.
Harin, meanwhile, in just over month, has already succeeded to convince ICC for launching an emnesty in Sri Lanka and conduct the SLC election in democratic way.
