Bangladeshi pace-bowler Taskin Ahmed has been ruled out from the upcoming ODI series against New Zeland with a twisted ankle.
Debashish Chowdhury, the chief physician of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), said there is no possibility of Taskin’s participation in the ODIs against New Zealand.
“The type of the injury that Taskin has sustained is not good. He already had an MRI and we will get the report by tomorrow (Sunday). Before that, we cannot say the exact time frame when Taskin will be able to comeback. But, it’s almost certain he has no possibility to take part in the ODIs against New Zealand,” Debashish told the reporters on Saturday.
Bangladesh will face the Kiwis in three ODIs and as many as Tests during their tour. The ODIs will be played on February 13, 16 and 20 at Napier, Christchurch and Dunedin respectively. The Tests will be played at Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch on February 28 February, March 8 and 16 respectively.
The pacer was included in the national team recently and an unexpected blow came as a fresh obstacle for him to make a comeback.
Meanwhile, the national selectors are already in search for a replacement of Taskin. A source close to the selectors told UNB that either Shafiul Islam or Ebadat Hossain will get a call to the national side as a replacement of Taskin.
The right-handed pacer got his left-ankle injured during the last game of Sylhet Sixers in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) on Friday against Chittagong Vikings while taking a catch at the boundary. The ball was too away from him but Taskin did not skimp to go for it, and eventually, he ended with a twisted ankle.
