Rohit Sharma, after leading the Indian side in a T20I for the 14th time in the second t20, went on to not just beat MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli for most number of wins as captain in the format for India but also go joint-top on the overall list.
It wasn’t just a convincing 7-wicket win for Team India in Auckland but also a statistically important one for the Mumbai batsman. After scoring a half-century on Friday, Rohit went on to surpass Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik and New Zealand’s Martin Guptill in the list of T20I top-scorers to bag the summit position. The 50-run knock proved pivotal in India’s chase of 159 runs, with Rohit emerging as the top run-scorer for the team in the match.
A record-shattering match saw Rohit also record the most number of wins as captain of the Indian team after 14 matches, with 12, while Kohli and Dhoni were only able to bag 8 each as captains, respectively, in the same duration. The 12-match win in 14 games also puts Sharma joint-top, alongside Pakistan’s Sarfraz Ahmed and Australia’s Michael Clarke in the list of captains with most wins in the said duration worldwide.
