The members of the Kapil Dev-led 1983 World Cup winning Indian team are reportedly ‘unhappy’ about the fees which they will be receiving for sharing their dream tales of the unforgettable World Cup campaign for the highly anticipated Ranveer Singh-starrer ’83, which will be directed by Kabir Khan. The movie is based on India’s maiden World Cup-winning campaign in 1983 but the real heroes of the team are dejected for the remuneration they will receive for sharing the ‘story of a lifetime’.
According to a report in TOI, the former cricketers, who were part of the historic side, met in Mumbai on Thursday to discuss their worry as the producers are paying them a ‘paltry’ Rs 15 lakh each for sharing their stories. The former team members have signed contracts to share their take on the historic World Cup winning campaign.
“That’s a pittance. You’re talking about players who won the biggest trophy ever for Indian cricket. It is 1983 that changed everything for India,” sources told TOI.
The report further states that Kapil, who was the captain of the World Cup winning team, has an entirely separate contract with the filmmakers. Whereas Indian opener at that time, Sunil Gavaskar, is the only member of the side not to have signed a contract.
