David Warner slams sensational century on injury comeback

Written by Vipin Darwade

Banned Australian batsman David Warner, on Saturday, made a stunning comeback from injury as he slammed a quickfire century in a local one-day game for his Sydney club – Randwick-Petersham. Warner scored blistering 110 runs off 77 deliveries laced with seven sixes and four fours. He had picked an elbow injury while playing in the Bangladesh Super League and had to leave the tournament midway for recovery.

Warner and Steve Smith were handed out bans of 1-year each for their involvement in the ball-tampering scandal which rocked Australian cricket last year. The duo will be looking to get back in touch for the impending World Cup and provide a major boost to the defending champions, who have largely felt the absence of the duo.

Both Smith and Warner were expected to play in the upcoming ODI series against Pakistan, however, they were left out despite being eligible to play. The series will be Australia and Pakistan’s final international assignment ahead of the World Cup. The duo will play in the Indian Premier League to pave their way into the Australian squad.

While Smith was retained by his side Rajasthan Royals, Warner was also retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad. Smith is currently recovering from an elbow injury and is yet to give a major fitness update as their remain doubts over his participation in the tournament. However, he was seen knocking a few deliveries in the nets in a video uploaded on Instagram, showing progress.
