The selection committee, on Wednesday, announced that Sri Lanka bowling spearhead Lasith Malinga, Who was removed as ODI captain, will continue to remain as the skipper of the T20I side.
“We had lost all 8 ODIs played under Lasith. So we had to take a decision. Mathews was the first choice with his experience but after he declined so we went to Dimuth who led the Test team well. Lasith will be our main bowler also will remain as T20I captain” Chief Selector Asantha De Mel told on Wednesday.
Malinga, even though could not uplift the performance of the team under his captaincy so far, is the current skipper of the team. In last two weeks, he has done everything (by playing in IPL and in domestic tournament tirelessly) to save his captaincy. After a long time, he is in devastating form with the ball for Mumbai Indians and more importantly has shown the commitment.
