With third straight golden duck, Ashton Turner creates unwanted record

Written by Abhishek Patil

It was thought that Rajasthan Royals (RR) have landed a gem when they bought Ashton Turner at the Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions last year on a cut-price deal. He had set the Big Bash alight with his swashbuckling batting. Then Turner enhanced his reputation when he slammed an unbeaten, match-winning 84 off 48 balls against India in Mohali. But since the IPL has started, it has been an entirely different story.

Turner recorded his third straight golden duck in season 12 of the IPL. On Monday against Delhi Capitals (DC), Turner walked in to bat when the Royals were placed at 157 for three with 25 balls left in the innings. It was the perfect moment for the Australian to launch an onslaught onto the DC attack. But Turner again failed to impress as he spooned a slower delivery outside off-stump from Ishant Sharma at cover.

With the golden duck against DC, Turner’s score in the last 5 innings in T20 cricket read – 0 0 0 0 0. Now, the Australian has become the first batsman in T20 history to score five zeroes in a row. Turner was bought by Rajasthan for Rs 50 lakh at the pre-season auction but is yet to get off the mark in his IPL career.
