In the aftermath of deadly serial bomb blasts in the country that killed hundreds of innocent people’s, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) has cancelled the sendoff ceremony of the national team for the World Cup campaign, Cricket Age reliably learns.
On April 23rd, Cricket Age had published that after the 67 millions loot through the recently concluded disastrous domestic tournament, now the SLC is planning to spend millions on the sendoff of the national team for the World Cup campaign.
According to sources, after Cricket Age exposed, the management committee of SLC, during its meeting yesterday, decided to cancel it’s plan. Instead, now SLC to organize a low key religious ceremony.
However, it has learnt that the SLC has already paid Rs. 16 million to an advertising firm for electronic and print media advertising. That firm belongs to the daughter of a top politician of Sri Lanka. Former SLC President Thilanga Sumathipala is the main culprit, who always look after that too leader daughter’s interest and I’m return gets political benefits.
It is said that an SLC official is behind this campaign and he is said to be connected to a television station and having close ties with this advertising firm.
During the past World Cup tournament too, SLC had spent a colossal sum of money for a lavish send off. However, the Sri Lankan team failed to even qualify for the final round.
Cricket Age also learns that Although the Chairman of SLC Shammi Silva protested about the colossal expenditure, due to pressure from higher government sources, he has retracted his objections, according to SLC internal sources.
