The Delhi Capitals (DC) team has flourished under the guidance of coach Ricky Ponting and advisor Sourav Ganguly. The franchise currently occupies top spot in the Indian Premier League (IPL) team standings and have already qualified for the playoffs. The players in the team have been full of praise for both Ganguly and Ponting for their leadership, and with the contract of Ravi Shastri expiring after the ICC World Cup, fans have started to ponder on the option of having Ponting as head coach of the Indian team.
Ganguly, during an interview with Cricbuzz, was asked about the possibilities of having Ponting as the head coach of the Indian national team in future.
“That you have to ask him if he is ready to stay away from home for 8-9 months of a year. But yes, if you talk about credentials, there is no doubt he can be a great candidate,” Ganguly answered.
“We are great friends. There was a point in time when we were adversaries on the pitch, but over the years our friendship has grown. He has done some great work with the boys and it’s showing,” he added.
