When majority of so called ‘Messiah’s‘, associated with Sri Lanka Cricket, are busy in getting benefited big time during the ongoing world cup in England and Wales, former national team manager Charith Senanayake on Monday posted a brutal but truthful message for the players ahead of Afghanistan match on May 4.
In his message, Charith has advised players to not get distracted by cunning acts of opportunists, those who have a part of the dressing room and those who have suddenly gathered around the dressing room, and play as a team for their motherland.
Sri Lanka lost the first World Cup match against New Zealand in embarrassing fashion, by 10 wickets.
Charith’s message reads:
“My sincere advice to the Captain & the team,
Stop listening to all those dodgy characters hovering around you on tour for all the wrong reasons (paid by you with your hard earned money)
Fact 99% of them haven’t done or contributed jack shit for SL cricket. They are only there to make hay while the sun shines. They have different agendas, play a different ball game for their own shitty self gains. Do not get caught in their dramas. Cos you got a job in hand.
Have a private team chat. No support staff either. At this point, you only need your physio & masseur. They are sincere. Rest, I am not sure cos they too are caught up in games other than the WC.
Remember this country has invested a lot in you. Also there are others who have made many sacrifices just to place where you are right now. The list Includes the ones who made your kit that you wear too. They all matter.
Thus, you have a duty & obligation to standby your country, your well wishers & most importantly the institution where you belong & represent. Rest don’t matter.
Believe & back yourselves. You don’t need these parasites to misguide you with their non sincere actions. Keep your focus on the job in hand. Play with dignity & right intentions with the Country at heart.
Believe me, you will succeed.
All I can do is to wish you guys well being many miles away. Keep away from these timeservers. They will anyway survive with or without you. But not you.
Good luck boys. If not for any other, just do it for your selves. It matters when you look back many years down the line. No money in this world can buy that. Try put that smile back on those beautiful Lankan faces.
Sincerely yours,”
Charith Senanayake, One of the most outspoken person in Sri Lanka cricket, was controversially removed with a lame excuse by Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) few months ago, on the recommendations of million dollar paid white elephant coach Chandika Hathurasingha. The laughable excuse was that Hathurusingha felt that Charith’s presence in the dressing room was affecting Sri Lanka team winning chances. However, after Charith departure as well, Sri Lanka is yet to win an ODI match.
