Rohit Sharma on brink of surpassing Yuvraj Singh in elite list

Written by Abhishek Patil

Indian opener Rohit Sharma will be eyeing a major milestone when he steps out to bat in the third ODI between India and West Indies in Trinidad on Wednesday. Rohit stands just 26 runs away to surpass former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh on the list of Indian batsmen with most runs in ODI cricket.

Rohit currently has 8676 runs under his belt in 217 ODIs at an average of 48.74 including 27 centuries and 42 fifties.

Yuvraj, who recently retired from international cricket, had amassed 8701 runs in 304 ODIs. If Rohit manages to go past Yuvraj on Wednesday, he will become the 7th highest Indian run-getter in ODIs behind Sachin Tendulkar (18426), Virat Kohli (11406), Sourav Ganguly (11363), Rahul Dravid (10889), MS Dhoni (10773) and Mohammad Azharuddin (9378).

Yuvraj scored 92 runs in three ODI games for Asia XI which brings down his run-tally for India in ODIs to 8609 runs. Rohit (8676) is already ahead of the former swashbuckling left-hander when it comes to having scored runs for India as the stylish right-hander has played all his games for the Men in Blue. The Indian vice-captain was the top-scorer in the recently-concluded World Cup and has carried the purple patch on the ongoing Windies tour.
