In order to maintain transparency and to avoid unnecessary controversy, Sports Minister Harin Fernando has written a letter to Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) to appoint a four member committee to deal upcoming TV broadcasting rights, Cricket Age exclusively learns.
The upcoming TV deal is scheduled for first half of 2020 and will be locked for next five years.
Cricket Age has the access of Sports Ministry letter and it’s reads that the proposed committee will consists of – SLC President Shammi Silva, CEO Ashley De Silva, Ministry Secretary Chulananda Perera and an ICC representative.
The committee will be tasked to evaluate and submit a detailed report with their observations.
The letter, addressed to SLC President Shammi Silva, also reads that the appointment of the committee is purely to insure that the TV rights deal evaluation process is carried out with utmost transparency at all times, as requested by many parties concerned.
It is noteworthy that at the start of the month, Harin Fernando had a fruitful meeting with ICC chairman Shashank Manohar at his residence in Nagpur, India. As per the letter, Harin discussed the TV rights deal matter with Shashank and accordingly has proposed to include an ICC representative in the committee as well.
Cricket Age understands that Shashank is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka on August 22 and will watch the second New Zealand test at P. Sara Oval, apart from discussing present situation of the cricket in the island with Harin and top SLC officials.
