Like any other previous SLC administration, current president Shammi Silva led administration has also been elected democratically. Likewise, the decision of Sri Lanka Cricket must be taken at SLC, democratically and collectively. However, as it has always been a case with Thilanga Sumathipala (who still holds a laughable post at SLC called immediate past President), he is manipulating things in Sri Lanka Chief Cricket operations officer Asanka Gurusinha’s extension issue from his residence at Punchi Borella and making a mockery of rest of the SLC administration.
As Asanka Gurusinha failed miserably in all his responsibilities – head of SLC’s high performance Centre (HPC) and brain centre operations, as well as international and women’s cricket affairs – SLC Top officials rightly decided to not to extend his contract and. However, Sumathipala, as immediate past President, opposed the move during ExCo on August 16 and forced SLC to evaluate Gurusinha’s tenure!
Yesterday (August 19), Sumathipala summoned SLC secretary Mohan De Silva to his residence Kembell Place at Punchi Borella and instructed him to circulate a resolution, saying that he (Sumathipala) is recommending two years extension for Gurusinha and to get the vote of the members.
Sumathipala knew that majority of ExCo members still supports his wrongdoings and sins (for their own survival and to fulfill their own agendas, neglecting the interest of Sri Lanka Cricket), so the resolution would be in his favour.
Mohan De Silva did the same! Yesterday afternoon, he sent a circular within SLC, saying that Sumathipala has proposed to extend Gurusinha’s contract for two years and asks for response within 24 hours. In the circular, Mohan De Silva also stated that if no response within 24 hours, it would be taken as agreement.
Cricket Age understands that the Sumathipala’s gang members – Priyantha Zoysa, Gehan Wickramsinghe, Sujeewa Godaliyadda (root of all problems at SLC) have already replied the email in favour of their Boss!
Most shockingly, however, is that Mohan De Silva sent the circular without informing SLC President Shammi Silva!
That’s how, Sumathipala is again trying to remote Sri Lanka cricket from Punchi Borella! Even a general Cricket fan will accept the truth that Gurusinha turned a white elephant for Sri Lanka cricket. Even after getting 10,000 USD salary per month, he failed miserably to contribute anything positive to Sri Lanka cricket. For Sumathipala, however, the interest of Sri Lanka Cricket always comes secondary, as his first priority has always been to manipulate things, protect his non performing loyal’s and in this process it is the Sri Lanka Cricket, which always suffers!
The equation is quite simple now: if Gurusinha leaves Sri Lanka cricket, the democratically elected SLC administration will win. If Gurusinha remains, Sumathipala will win!
