The Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) Wednesday morning officially informed former president Thilanga Sumathipala about the special directive given by Sports Minister Harin Fernando regarding his suspension from the board pending enquiry, Cricket Age reliably learns.
Sumathipala is currently holding a position as immediate past President at SLC.
Yesterday, Harin Fernando, through a special directive, barred Sumathipala from attending any of the future SLC meetings until an investigation panel gives it’s report on him within one-month period.
“As per the Honorable Sports Minister special directive, secretary Mr. Mohan De Silva went a mail to all the Executive committee (ExCo) members about the decision” a senior SLC administrator told Cricket Age.
In a letter to the SLC, the minister has also stated that he has taken the decision to suspend Sumathipala following a complaint received by Piliyandala Town sports club.
The panel which includes Dhammika Muthugala – Director General (Development Sports Department), Shiromi Ranwaka – Sports Ministry Legal Officer and retired Air Force officer S.D. Piyadasa will determine whether Sumathipala could continue to hold office in line with the regulations of the National Association of Sports Regulations and to report back to him within a month.
The next ExCo meeting of SLC is scheduled for September 16.
