Three employees of Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) mediia unit have been assigned to write the political stuff for former board president Thilanga Sumathipala’s campaign, Cricket Age reliably learns.
Sumathipala, still the highest authority of SLC, was appointed SLFP organiser of Moratuwa in July this year.
According to sources, accordingly, three SLC media personals – Chamila karawita and Sampath Thushara and a lady employee – have been instructed by ExCo member Priyantha Zoysa, who is also a political coordinator of Sumathipala, to write articles, stories promoting his boss, instead of doing the designated work at SLC.
Moreover, the lady employee and Chamila goes to Punchi Borella on daily basis and handles all the media work of Sumathipala.
Also, recently, SLC controversial assistant secretary Crysantha Kapuwatha summoned Chamila and Sampath to his cabin and blasted them saying plenty of news publishing, airing against Sumathipala and both they are doing nothing to stop it, which must have been their main responsibility.
In June this year, both Chamila Karawita (Lake House) and Sampath Dayawansa – were hired as coordinators of the media unit. Notably, prior to his appointment, Dayawansa was associated with Punchi Borella and was running a PR agency.
Sumathipala, meanwhile, has decided to run the SLC from Punchi Borella, considering the election time. The master plan was to strategically part ways with SLC by plotting a drama of fallout with president Shammi Silva and control the Cricket affairs from backstage, as all the board administrators are his loyal.
By doing so, Sumathipala thinks that in the upcoming presidential and general elections, the opposition parties won’t be able to connect him with the SLC and his loyal Shammi Silva will continue to take his orders and implement!
