Ravichandran Ashwin is all but set to leave Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and join Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of the next Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The veteran spinner, who led Kings XI Punjab in the 2017 and 2018 season, is likely to join DC in an all-cash deal and not a player swap. However, the deal has been stalled at the moment due to monetary reasons.
According to a report, Ashwin’s sale to Delhi Capital is stuck due to disagreements in negotiations between the player and KXIP. In case of a sale, the buying team protects the salary of the player and pays an additional amount to the selling side. As per rules of the IPL, the player can demand up to 50% of the additional amount.
Ashwin, who was roped in by KXIP for a whopping Rs 7.6 crore in the 2017 player auction, will be heading to Delhi Capitals in an undisclosed fee. However, the spinner is in negotiations with KXIP over his share in the additional amount that Delhi Capitals will be offering to buy him ahead of the next season. However, Kings XI Punjab CEO Satish Menon denied any disagreements with Ashwin and said the sale will only go through when the KXIP board sanctions it.
“I can say there is no such issue and the sale would happen only when the board of the franchise gives the go-ahead. Ashwin was in the UK for county games till recently and our board has not met yet,” Menon was quoted as saying.
Ashwin will be an ideal replacement for ageing Amit Mishra for the Delhi Capitals.
