While Cricket is on ventilator due to the incompetence of President Shammi Silva led administration in taking right decisions at Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC), certain individuals, especially from the Colombo Cricket Club (CCC), are reaping massive benefits. After taking over SLC on February 21, Shammi Silva has obliged CCC employees, members and players big time by one or other way.
And, Kuvera De Zoysa tops that list of beneficiaries at SLC. A president counsel, Kuvera is not only a member of CCC, but is also Shammi’s lawyer.
So, it’s obvious that SLC, in last 7 months, has paid Kuvera an excessive amount for his minimal services as legal advisor.
Cricket Age has the access of SLC Management Committee (MC) documents that says that Kuvera has been paid excessively for his consultation time to time in various matters.
For providing his advice on much talked about (and now been thrown into dustbin) forensic audit draft Kuvera has been paid Rs. 525,000.
For CA writ 253/2019, he received Rs. 210,000.
For DMR 31/18, he was paid 105,000.
Only for drafting few unnecessary and cover up letters for SLC to Sony TV, he was paid a whopping Rs. 315,000.
For giving his opinion on SLC legal status for engaging in foreign currency investment, Kuvera has been paid Rs. 315,000.
For CA writ 51/2019 ( Nuwan Zoysa Vs. SLC and others), he was paid Rs. 210,000.
For CA writ 253/2019 (Avishka Gunawardana Vs. SLC and others), he was paid Rs. 420,000.
For drafting letters to Sony TV in relation to Bangladesh and New Zealand tour, he was paid Rs. 315,000.
For his appearance on 21st May in CA writ 51/2019 in Nuwan Zoysa case, SLC paid him further Rs. 210,000.
In total, in last few months, SLC has paid him approximately 2.6 million for his legal services.
“He is not only a CCC member, but also very good friend of Mr. Shammi Silva. So, it’s obvious that he is reaping massive benefits like lot of other individuals of CCC, who have become the most powerful at Maitland place after 21st February” a senior SLC administrator told Cricket Age in term of anonymity.
Shammi Silva led administration, in last 7 months, have completely paralyzed Sri Lanka Cricket with their mismanagement. Suspended head coach Chandika Hathurasingha is drawing a salary of 40,000 USD per month by just sitting at Khetterama, as there is no permanent head coach, spin bowling coach for the national team. In addition, at so called High Performance centre, there is no successor of Asanka Gurusinha. Everything in Sri Lanka cricket right now, is unsolved. Instead of resolving these burning issues, Shammi Silva led administration is busy in uncountable overseas trips and obliging CCC members, employees and players!
