Mayank Agarwal entered the record books by becoming the third joint-fastest among Indians to register his maiden double ton in the longer format during the second day’s play in the first Test between India and South Africa in Visakhapatnam on Thursday (October 3). Earlier in the day, the right-hander had slammed his first ton in the format and, thus, went onto converting it into a big score.
The 28-year-old, playing his first Test on home soil, made the most of the occasion heavily favouring the batsmen and went onto register the third joint-fastest maiden double ton among Indians, in terms of innings taken (8th innings*). He falls behind Karun Nair (3), Vinod Kambli (4) and tied with Sunil Gavaskar.
Thus, Mayank also joined some of the big names in Indian cricket, skipper Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag and Cheteshwar Pujara, to have double centuries up their sleeves in the longest format of the game.
