Jayantha Dharmadasa, one of the stalwart of the game in the Island, is set to replace tainted and banned Thilanga Sumathipala as immediate past President of Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC), Cricket Age reliably learns.
Sumathipala, the so called Messiah of Sri Lanka Cricket, was banned by Sports Ministry last week after a report of International Cricket Council (ICC) reveals his involvement in betting and gambling through his company Sporting Star.
After Sumathipala’s Shameful departure, Dharmadasa is the obvious choice to become SLC immediate past President.
According to sources, the SLC is expected to approve Dharmadasa appointment during the next Executive Committee (ExCo) meeting.
Dharmadasa has served SLC as President on multiple time and during his each tenure, the Cricket prospered big time in the Island! An administrator with clean image, Dharmadasa’a arrival at SLC will be helpful for the game in moving forward, as present president Shammi Silva has turned an epic failure, with all his focus has been shifted on upcoming TV rights deal and funding for various non cricketing things!
Sumathipala Camp, however, seems furious with latest development of SLC regarding Dharmadasa! Even after being exposed by ICC how Sumathipala was actively involved in betting and gambling while being a part of the board, Punchi Borella loyals are still shamelessly trying to sabotage Dharmadasa’a appointment!
