Angered by the ban on former Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) president Thilanga Sumathipala, former Sports Minister Gamini Lokuge has reportedly humiliated Pilliyandala Town Club members, Cricket Age reliably learns.
Last week, present Sports Minister Harin Fernando banned Sumathipala from Cricket, after an International Cricket Council (ICC) report revealed his active involvement in the betting and gambling business. The Sports Minister took the extreme step after receiving a complaint against Sumathipala from Pilliyandala Town Club few months ago.
According to sources, now as Lokuge has joined SLPP party of Rajapaksa’s family, he shares a good rapport with Sumathipala. Reason, Sumathipala is also fighting for his survival through former president’s party.
Therefore, An angry Lokuge went to Pilliyandala town club, where he is also a member, and blasted fellow members for complaining to Sports ministry about Sumathipala.
It is noteworthy that, as a Sports Minister, Lokuge used SLC money for his political campaigns. However, when then interim SLC President and world cup winning iconic captain Arjuna Ranatunga protested against his wrongdoings, he went to then country’s president and manipulated things big time.
In another episode, Lokuge had struck a good deal for TV rights with a former SLC administrator!
