Only one day to go before the opening T20 International between India and Bangladesh kicks off in the national capital but the situation pertaining to the air pollution is showing no signs of easing out. Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin, who isn’t a part of the squad for the series, labelled the entire situation as an ’emergency’ while admitting that the quality of air has become scary.
While the stand-in Indian skipper Rohit Sharma gave the newly appointed BCCI president Sourav Ganguly his and the other players’ go-ahead for the series opener, Ashwin has highlighted the emergency-like situation amid the alarming Air Quality (AQI) Index in the national capital.
“The quality of air in Delhi is really scary, the oxygen we breathe is the basic requisite for mankind on this planet. This indeed is emergency,” he tweeted on Saturday morning.
The air quality in many parts of the city have dropped down to the ’emergency’ category, forcing the government to shut schools till November 05. For the first time since January this year, the overall AQI touched the ‘Severe plus’ or ’emergency category’, going as low as 582. On Friday morning, all the 37 air quality monitoring stations across the city were showing severe category.
