The Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) is set to appoint new coaches for national team and High Performance Centre (HPC) at Khetterama in next few days, Cricket Age reliably learns.
Currently, national team’s head coach Chandika Hathurasingha is facing a suspension for not delivering results during his disastrous tenure, while another former player Asanka Gurusinha has been removed as incharge of HPC, as he too miserably failed to uplift the standard of the high performance coaches at Khetterama.
Accordingly, fast bowling coach Romesh Ratnayake is shouldering the responsibility as interim coach of the national team, while SLC COO Jerome Jayaratne has been added as consultant coach.
Cricket Age understands that it took time for SLC to sort out all the vacant coaching positions, as the board had to follow the right procedure to advertise all the positions, after a directive by Sports Minister Harin Fernando on August 21.
“As per the special directive from honorable Sports Minister, it took time as we had to advertise all posts and to appoint in right manner, but now we have finalized most suitable coaches for these vacant posts. We are confident that after these appointments, Sri Lanka Cricket will start to prosper again” a senior SLC administrator told Cricket Age.
Jerome Jayaratne, who impressed SLC top brass as consultant coach in last few months during Pakistan and Australia T20I series, is most likely to be roped in as incharge of HPC at Khetterama.
“He has a proven record as a Coach. So, yes Mr. Jerome is most likely to takeover HPC. Most probably, before 14th November, we will appoint all the coaches” the administrator added further.
