Wriddhiman Saha will be eyeing MS Dhoni’s record when India take on Bangladesh in the two-match Test series starting from Thursday. Saha is currently India’s first-choice wicket-keeper in the longest format of the game, ahead of Rishabh Pant in the pecking order. He had an impressive outing in the Test series against South Africa which India won 3-0, and will be looking to continue his fine form behind the stumps against the Bangla Tigers.
Saha will be looking to surpass Dhoni in becoming the wicket-keeper with most dismissals in India-Bangladesh Tests. Saha currently has seven dismissals in two Tests against the Bangla Tigers (5 catches and 2 stumpings). The list of most dismissals in Test affairs between the two sides is led by Dhoni, who has 15 dismissals (12 catches 3 stumpings) to his name in three Test against the visitors. Mushfiqur Rahim is third on the list with 11 dismissals (9 catches and 2 stumpings).
Saha was roped in ahead of Pant in the Test series against South Africa on the basis of his better keeping skills, which were expected to come in handy for the Indian spinners. The Bengal wicket-keeper was also rated as the best in the world by skipper Kohli ahead of the series. Saha justified his selection with a good show against the Proteas to cement his spot in the side.
India are currently unbeaten in the ICC World Test Championship with five wins in a row and will be looking to continue the streak against Bangladesh in the two-match rubber.
