India defeated Bangladesh comprehensively by an innings and 130 runs in the first Test of the ongoing two-match series at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Saturday. With the win, Kohli surpassed MS Dhoni to record his 10th win by an innings in Tests as captain – highest by any Indian captain. Dhoni had won nine Test by an innings as captain. Former England captain Michael Vaughan, who had earlier criticised the condition of pitches in India, hailed Kohli after his team’s brilliant display. Vaughan, who played 82 Tests and 86 ODIs for England, said Kohli is fast becoming India’s best ever captain.
“Virat must be fast becoming India’s best ever skipper,” Vaughan tweeted after India’s victory in Indore. Kohli’s record as India’s captain as been terrific across formats but his team have forged incredible domination in the longest format of the game in the past couple of years. Kohli currently has 32 wins in 52 Tests as captain for India which is the most by any Indian captain. Dhoni is second with 27 wins in 60 games.
Talking about the Indore Test, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first in the game. Indian quicks were all over the visitors as they were bundled out for a paltry 150 in the first innings with Shami picking up a three-wicket haul. India in reply posted a mammoth total of 493/6 on the board in their first innings with the help of Mayank Agarwal’s double century (243) and half-centuries from Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja.
