Sri Lanka Cricket successfully conducted the Level 02 Coaching Program of the Year 2019, with the participation of 20 participants, which also included national men’s players such as Dinesh Chandimal and Upul Tharanga and also ex-national women cricketers, Sripali Weerakkodi and Randika Galhenage.
The annual program, which was conducted by the Coach Education Unit of the SLC, focused on embedding modern coaching techniques, developing mental skills in players, building effective practice plans and delivering impactful sessions.
The sessions were held under the titles of modern coaching approach, role of an advance coach, skill acquisition, mental conditioning, communication and presentation skills, biomechanics and mental toughness in addition to sessions on advanced batting, fast bowling, spin bowling, wicket keeping and fielding.
The program was designed and conducted by Heshan De Mel, Head of Coach Education Unit of the SLC, Mr. Tharaka Samaratunga and Chamila Gamage, respectively, who works as coach educators of the SLC.
Member of the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires Kumar Dharmasena conducted the session on ‘Mental Toughness,’ whilst former national cricketers Rangana Herath, Prasanna Jayawardena and Ravindra Pushpakumara also took part as ‘Resource Persons’ at this program.
Sumithra Warnakulasuriya, a veteran coach, whilst Dilshan Fonseka and Aravinda Jayadewa of the High Performance Center of the RPICS, and Shanaka Fernando, a District coach also conducted sessions. Thejaka Wanigasekera, Anti-Corruption Manager of the SLC also conducted a session on anti-corruption. The six day program which was held during the month of October, 2019 at RPICS, Colombo.
