West Indies head coach Phil Simmons on Tuesday said he is looking forward to seeing the banter between Virat Kohli and Kesrick Williams continue in the 3rd and final T20I of the ongoing series.
In what has been a hard-fought series so far between India and West Indies, the on-field banter between India captain Virat Kohli and West Indies pacer Kesrick Williams has made headlines.
It all started when Virat Kohli imitated Kesrick Williams’s trademark ‘notebook celebration’ after taking the pacer to the cleaners during his match-winning knock of 94 in Hyderabad.
“The banter has been good, it has been interesting because they are 1-1 now because he [Virat] got Kesrick in the first match and Kesrick got him in the second. Let’s see who wins it tomorrow [Wednesday],” head coach Phil Simmons said.
Kohli’s animated gestures became one of the biggest talking points during India’s win in the 1st T20I. Elaborating on his banter with Williams who is well-known for his notebook celebration in the Caribbean Premier League, Kohli said he wanted to give the West Indies pacer a taste of his own medicine.
“It’s not from the CPL, it happened to me in Jamaica (in 2017) when he got me out. So I thought I’ll tick a few in the notebook as well, but all good,” Kohli said after the 1st T20I.
