Former Australian skipper Ponting is well aware of Rohit’s credentials as a skipper, having seen him from close quarters during the IPL. On Sunday (January 12), Ponting was asked few questions by his avid fans on Twitter and one of them was rating Rohit as a captain.
Ponting was all praise for the 32-year-old and stated, “I rate Rohit Sharma exceptionally highly as a batsman and leader. His captaincy record in the IPL speaks for itself.”
Rohit had a stellar run in 2019. Apart from being the highest run-getter in the 2019 World Cup, with five tons to his name, he cemented his place as a Test opener with daddy hundreds (including his maiden double hundred) during the South Africa home series. At present, Rohit is gearing up for the three ODIs between India and Australia, from January 14 (Tuesday).
Rohit was out of action from the 22-yard circle during the India-Sri Lanka T20Is as the veteran opener was given much-needed rest. He was seen spending quality time with his family.
