The Parliamentary Committee On Public Enterprises (COPE), chaired by MP Sunil Handunnetti, thursday made a recommendation that a complaint be lodged at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to inquire into the tenders for international televised and radio broadcasting rights at Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC), Cricket Age reliably learns.
The recommendation was made by the COPE when the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) was summoned before the committee to inquire about alleged corruption at SLC.
The COPE, to probe frauds and corruptions of SLC, commenced it’s investigation on September 3 last year. Since then, majority of top board administrators and officials have been questioned over various transactions, bank accounts.
It was revealed that the SLC had to suffer a loss of Rs 3.1 billion in granting international televised and radio broadcasting rights to Taj TV, the Dubai-based owners of the leading sports channel Ten Sports.
Also, it was revealed that the Executive Board of SLC has decided to donate Rs 50 million to the Malwathu Chapter. This was to lease land belonging to the Temple which was used for the construction of a Cricket Training Campus although the originally agreed 30-year lease payment for the land was Rs 26.25 million.
Accordingly, the COPE has advised the Auditor General to take further action to find out whether any irregularity has taken place in the matter in this lease transaction.
