US President Donald Trump is on his maiden visit to India. President Trump and his wife Melania started their trip in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad city where he addressed a huge crowd at the Namaste Trump event at the Motera cricket stadium on Monday.
However, there were some awkward moments as well as Donald Trump tried to pronounce several Indian words and mention the names of some of the Indian greats. Addressing a crowd of more than 100,00 people Trump mentioned Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli in his speech but struggled to pronounce their names right.
“This is the country where the people cheer on some of the world’s greatest cricket players from Sachin Tendulkar to Virat Kohli,” Donald Trump said. However the pronounced Sachin “Soo-chin” and Virat Kohli as “Virot Kolee”.
Though Donald Trump thunderous applause from the crowd for heaping praise on the Indian cricketers, he was also trolled on social media for his failure to get the names correct.
Former England skipper Kevin Pietersen also looked unimpressed with Trump’s gaffe as tagged English broadcaster Piers Morgan to post his message on Twitter.
“FFS, @piersmorgan, pls ask your mate to do some research in pronouncing legends names?!,” Pietersen tweeted.
