Many Cricket Board employees, ExCo members, sponsors and team’s supporters are scheduled to reach Hambantota in a specially arranged flight to attend the second ODI between Sri Lanka and West Indies on Wednesday, Cricket Age reliably learns.
Currently, Dimuth Karunaratne side is leading the three match series 1-0, after winning a last over thriller at SSC, Colombo.
According to sources, board staff, including secretaries, ExCo members and renowned team supporters Percy Abeysekara and Gayan Senanayake among others boarded the flight from Rathmalana at 11.30 AM today for Mattala Mahinda Rajapaksa Airport.
The top officials of Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) claims that the decision was taken in order to promote Sports Tourism in Southern District.
“Yes, they are going by plane. The decision was taken at ExCo meeting in order to promote Mattala Airport and to promote tourism in Southern District and in the Island as well” a top SLC official told Cricket Age when inquired.
Meanwhile, both the teams had to take a longer route by bus on Sunday on their way to Hambantota, as the Southern Expressway extension was not declared open at that time.
