Carrying the heartbreak of a poor outing against New Zealand in their hearts, the Indian cricket team shifts attention to the forthcoming 3-match ODI series against South Africa, starting March 12. Virat Kohli & Co. did miss a number of star players during the tour of New Zealand and some of them could be in line for a return. The likes of Hardik Pandya, Shikhar Dhawan who have been nursing injuries, could be in line for a return while some other members could face the axe.
India’s primary opening pair in the ODI format – Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma – have been out injured. While Dhawan is believed to be ready for a return, there’s no update on the fitness of Rohit who had injured himself in the final T20 against the Kiwis.
Another big name who could be in for a return is Hardik Pandya who recently shone with the bat in the DY Patil Cup with a 37-ball hundred and a 5-wicket-haul. Although Hardik looked in fine touch during the T20 tournament, the selectors might look to go slow with him and wait till the Indian Premier League to assess his match-fitness levels.
