Team India men’s captain Virat Kohli took to Twitter and congratulated India Women’s after they qualified for their maiden T20 World Cup final.
Virat Kohli also wished luck to the team for the finals and wrote, “We are proud of you girls and wish you all the luck for the finals.”
The first semi-final between India and England was abandoned on Thursday as massive rain made it impossible for the play to start.
India qualified for the finals as they had won four out of their four matches in the league stage and hence finished as the table-toppers in their Group A.
England, on the other hand finished 2nd in the Group B behind South Africa. England had won 3 of their 4 group stage matches.
Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag and VVS Laxman also congratulated the Women’s team for entering finals.
Earlier, captain Harmanpreet Kaur lauded her team for putting some great performances and winning all 4 league matches.
“Unfortunate we didn’t get a game, but there are rules and we have to follow it. Having reserve days in the future will be a great idea. From day 1, we knew we have to win all the games because in case the semis don’t happen, that would be hard for us. In that sense, credit to the team for winning all the games,” she said after the match was washed out.
The final of the Women’s T20 World Cup will be played on Sunday.
