Dashing left hander Kusal Perera, who was rushed to hospital in Kandy after getting hit on the hand while collecting a Lasith Malinga yorker during Friday’s game, has been recalled for the two test series against touring England, Cricket Age reliably learns. Perera was not part of Sri Lanka’s two match series in Zimbabwe recently, in which his side won 1-0.

According to sources, Perera has not suffered a fracture but only torn ligaments and is expected to recover before the first test.

The first Test against England will begin in Galle on March 19 and the second Test at the SSC Grounds will be played from March 27.

Undoubtedly the best Sri Lanka batsman in shorter formats, Kusal has played some scintillating knocks in test cricket as well. In Durban last year, he played probably the greatest test innings against mighty South Africa. Then, in West Indies, he courageously played a match winning knocks on a deteriorating pitch. Sri Lanka Chief Selector Asantha De Mel, however, has continuely been ignoring him since then, in order to gift ‘five day games’ to non-perfomers like Lahiru Thirimane.
