Sri Lanka national team is set to get bullet proof vehicles as a measure of protection amid security threat, Cricket Age reliably learns.
First, it was taken to consideration for discussion in December last year, but so far nothing is finalized. Now, the proposal was tabled by Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) controversial chief security advisor Roshan Gunathilike during board’s last ExCo meeting.
According to sources, Gunathilike, in his proposal, has mentioned that after touring Pakistan for a full fledged series recently, Sri Lanka team and officials might be targeted by extremists. Thus, to ensure the security, SLC is planning to bring locally made bullet proof vehicles.
“We are not going for standard bullet proof vehicles, which are used for NBA basketball teams. Instead, we are on the opinion to get locally modified bullet proof vehicles” a top SLC administrator reluctantly told Cricket Age, when inquired.
During upcoming home series in future, SLC is likely to use these locally modified bullet proof vehicles for Sri Lanka team, as well as for touring sides.
Interestingly, SLC high profile secretary Mohan De Silva, who spends majority of time in a year in overseas, is also likely to get a bullet proof vehicle, for security reasons!! Right now, Mohan De Silva, who was in South Africa for promoting the game, is struggling to return to Sri Lanka, following the shutdown of Bandaranaike International Airport yesterday on Tuesday.
