‘Looked at the brighter side’ – Sanju Samson reacts to sitting on bench for long after return to T20 side

Sanju Samson made his much-awaited return to the Indian T20I side when he replaced Virat Kohli for the series against Bangladesh. However, his comeback story came to halt as he didn’t get a chance in the series and was dropped from the squad for the West Indies T20Is. Samson went on to replace Shikhar Dhawan for the series but he sat out once again.

He kept his place for Sri Lanka T20s and finally got a chance in the third game, where he marked his return with a six off the first ball he faced. Samson got out on the very next ball.

“I looked at the brighter side of things. I got to share the dressing room with legends like Virat bhai and Rohit bhai and there is a lot to learn from them even if we just observe the way they handle themselves on and off the ground. And then to be a part of the world’s best cricket team is not a small thing,” he told The Times of India.

His performances in IPL 2020 would have decided whether the 25-year-old keeps his place in T20 squad or not. With IPL unlikely to take place now, Samson could lose his spot.

While every other cricketer would be hoping that IPL 2020 does take place, Samson isn’t thinking much about the T20 league for now. “Yeah, everyone is asking the same question (about the IPL) but the priority is the health and safety of the citizens in our country and the world. To be honest, I am not thinking much about the IPL at the moment. First, this situation has to calm down a bit and everything has to come under control. Then the responsible people will take a call on the IPL,” he added.
