Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) decision to hand Misbah-ul-Haq full charge of the team invited a huge uproar last year. Misbah, who was playing Pakistan Super League (PSL) a few months before his appointment, was named Pakistan’s head coach and chief selector in September. He has had mixed run as coach and selector so far.
Pakistan had a poor tour of Australia as they lost the T20I series 0-2. The visiting team also lost both the Tests by an innings margin. They did defeat Sri Lanka 1-0 in two-match Test series and also dominated Bangladesh (at home) but Misbah still has a lot to answer for the poor tour of Australia.
Taking a dig at PCB for handing full control of the team to Misbah, former Pakistan all-rounder, Aamer Sohail, said that they handed him everything except referring him as the next Prime Minister.
“The PCB has handed so many roles to head coach-cum-chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq except referring his name as next Prime Minister. No doubt Misbah was a good cricketer, but he has no experience of such high-profile jobs, and giving him so many roles is injustice with him,” he told a YouTube channel.
Apart from bringing in a new coach, PCB also sacked captain Sarfaraz Ahmed after team’s poor run in the home series against Sri Lanka. He was also dropped from the national team and is yet to play international cricket since October. Babar Azam was named their limited-overs captain while Azhar Ali took over as Test captain.
