It’s not been long that Tim Paine, the Australian Test team captain almost gave Team India a warning of sorts and said that his current team with Steve Smith and David Warner back in it will be a ‘different kettle of fish’ in the upcoming Test series in December.
In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic a lot series’ have been postponed and India’s series Down Under is also under threat.
Cricket Australia on the other hand is facing an unprecedented event wherein their financial health has taken a major hit and that has forced them to think about a possible pat cut for players.
Tim Paine is aware of the crisis and that’s why knows how important is it for India to tour them.
“I think there’s a bit of safeguarding towards the potential of India not coming (on a tour in December/January) which is worth something like 250 to 300 million dollars,” Paine said.
“I’m hoping that they get here, that would solve a lot of issues,” he added.
India created history the last time they toured the nation and won a Test series in the country for the first time, also the Men in Blue are known to pull huge crowd in any corner of the world they play.
The upcoming series is bound to be a blockbuster one also because a revamped Australian team in the presence of Steve Smith, David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne are looking to prove that India’s last Test series win against them was a fluke.
It would be treat for the fans to watch these two powerhouses of cricket, clash full throttle against each other. Cricket Australia is working out plans to assure that the deadly coronavirus does not leave its imprint on this series as well. Tim Paine revealed some of the plans while talking to ABC Radio.
“I know there’s been some early talks with Cricket Australia and the government around the potential of what could be done, chartering planes and getting them in isolation when they get here to make sure that we can get India here,” the 35-year-old stated.
On the matter of a possible pay cut on the players’ salary, Tim Paine said everyone was aware of the situation and they won’t mind the cuts but they just need to know about the “absolute financial positions of the game”.
“Players need to know the absolute financial positions of the game and the players aren’t going to be greedy.”
