England’s two-match Test series in Sri Lanka, which has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has been rescheduled for January next year, Cricket Age reliably learns.
England were scheduled to play tests in Galle and Colombo in March before the coronavirus outbreak shut down sport worldwide as countries introduced lockdown measures to prevent the spread of the virus. The English team had spent around ten days in Sri Lanka in March and played a warm-up match before the tour was called off due to the coronavirus outbreak.
“The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has agreed to reschedule the two test match series between 4th to 28th January” a top Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) official told Cricket Age.
The tour consisted of two-Test matches as part of the ICC World Test Championship.
However, England are scheduled to tour India in January for a five-Test series, so, it remains to be seen how the scheduling will work out.
In the meantime, The ECB) has last week susupended it’s ambitious inaugural edition of ‘The Hundred’ to 2021 over coronavirus crisis.
“The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) today confirms that the launch of The Hundred will now take place in summer 2021,” said the ECB in its statement.
The Hundred is franchise based 100-ball cricket tournament to be played in England and Wales and administered by the ECB. The league will consist of eight city-based franchise teams, each of which will field both a men’s and women’s team.
