Cricket Australia (CA) has received a big boost as the board is now likely to get a go-ahead by BCCI to host Team India later this year. Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, Arun Dhumal, BCCI’s treasurer, said that the Indian players will go into isolation for a two-week period should they be asked to do so.
As per the norms, those travelling to Australia have to go into isolation for a period of two weeks. This could have seen BCCI postponing the tour but looks like the board is also willing to play the much-awaited series.
“There is no choice – everyone will have to do that. You would want to resume the cricket. Two weeks is not that long a lockdown. That would be ideal for any sportsman because when you are in quarantine for such a long period, then going to another country and having a two-week lockdown it would be a good thing to do. We’ll have to see what the norms are post this lockdown,” he said.
While Cricket Australia is yet to comment on the matter, a report had suggested that CA might lock Team India in a new hotel for the two-week period. The lavish hotel, which is likely to open in September, will have all training facilities and nets.
The series is still more than six months away and it remains to be seen whether Team India will travel to Australia or not. Much will depend on the T20 World Cup, which is to be played in Australia in October-November.
Should the tournament take place, Cricket Australia will surely host India as well. As per the schedule, Team India plays four Tests against Tim Paine-led side in December-January.
